2000 camaro oil pan gasket leak?

so from 1-10 (10 being the hardest) how hard is it to change an oil pan gasket leak on my camaro. i was told i had to lift the engine a few feet. ( so would i have to loosen the motor mounts or what?2000 camaro oil pan gasket leak?
my best advice is to make damn sure it's the oil pan gasket and not the intake manifold gasket or something else up top leaking and running down the ends of the block. I just read the service manual procedures and it looks like for both the 3.8L and the 5.7L you pretty much have to drop the engine cradle down to access the oil pan. Not to mention that they use RTV sealant on both sides of the new oil pan gasket so chances are you are going to get RTV all over everything. And if you have any oil anywhere the RTV goes, it won't seal and you'll be doing it all over again. So make sure it's the oil pan gasket leaking. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this an 8.2000 camaro oil pan gasket leak?
Could be close to a 10. If you are lucky you can lift the engine maybe 12 inches or so. That would probably mean taking your exhaust loose and wires too in order not to break them. It would prefer just taking the engine out. That way you could do the job right the first time.2000 camaro oil pan gasket leak?
autozone.com has a online repair manual with step by step instructions and diagrams to help you... it should not be hard if you follow directions2000 camaro oil pan gasket leak?
Try to tighten each bolt uniformly slightly tighter. You could use a torque wrench. Then see how fast it still leaks. A slow leak may be acceptable.2000 camaro oil pan gasket leak?

Do I have the ability to fix broken timing belt on a 1994 escort (1.9 motor)?

I am somewhat mechanically inclined... I know I need to support the motor and remove the motor mount which I think all I need to do is remove 2 bolts attached to back of motor and the long bolt that runs through the rubber bushing attached to the frame... (hope that is correct).. My biggest concern is if I am working on it by myself, when I line up the timing sprockets, how do I determine top dead center for the number one cylinder? I know how to line up the crankshaft pulley according to the teeth and the vr sensor, after that I am a bit lost on finding top dead center for the number one cylinder. I have changed timing belts before but not if they had broke while running, I would would just make sure I didn't move any of the pulleys when replacing... This belt broke while running and I am concerned that I may not be able to line it all up...any advice will be helpful-Thanks-LeeDo I have the ability to fix broken timing belt on a 1994 escort (1.9 motor)?
As far as telling if you are at TDC on the end of the compression stroke/beginning of the power stroke, besides lining up the timing marks, you have to make sure that both valves for the 1 cylinder are completely closed. If it were on the end of the exhaust stroke/beginning of the intake stroke, at least one if not both of the valves would be slightly open.

Here's a diagram to help with locating the marks;

http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/

And I would recommend a new water pump, unless you are sure it has been replaced recently. Also a new tensioner.

As far as the interference fit issue, you're in luck there. The 1.9L is not an interference fit engine. That was the 1.6L SOHC in earlier Escorts that were a big shock to their owners wallets, back in the day.Do I have the ability to fix broken timing belt on a 1994 escort (1.9 motor)?
Go to your favorite home depot type store, and buy a very long, thin wooden dowel. Take out the spark plug from the 1 cyl (all of them if you don't want to fight the engine compression). Put the dowel in there. Now when you're rotating the engine you can see the position of the piston by the motion of the dowel.

Now, some engines have matchmarks for TDC. Not having done a timing belt on your particular engine I'm not sure what the matchmarks look like. And they also may be covered in grime and general engine crap. If you can find them (usually small dimples on the pulleys), line them up with the %26quot;zero%26quot; (or another dimple) on the block. This is a lot easier than the dowel method, but finding the matchmarks can be a real PITA on a dirty engine.Do I have the ability to fix broken timing belt on a 1994 escort (1.9 motor)?
Well, I would not bother to repair broken timing belt.Sad to tell you but when your timing belt break while running the car the inside motor has broken down meaning a new motor. SorryDo I have the ability to fix broken timing belt on a 1994 escort (1.9 motor)?
You need to find out if you have an interference motor before you do anything. Call the dealer. If it is an interference motor you will have bent valves and need a valve job which requires removing the cylinder head.

If you don't have an interference motor, just set the crankshaft pulley to the TDC mark. Then align the camshaft timing mark. Check all the pulleys to see if they feel dry by spinning them by hand. Replace them if they make noise or don't feel smooth when spun. Check for leakage at the water pump, you might consider replacing it if you have over 80,000 miles on the motor.Do I have the ability to fix broken timing belt on a 1994 escort (1.9 motor)?
Why did you wait so long???? These are an interference fit engine. Ordinarily, a few hand tools and a Haynes manual would have gotten you through this cheaply. Or ALLDATA data base found in many libraries. If you are lucky, you didn't bend a valve. If you are UN-lucky, you will have to remove the head and have a new valve or two installed.

  • How do i swap a b18c1 gsr engine in my 91 da integra?

Right now i have a 91 acura integra with a b18a1 motor with a tanabe concept g exhaust and intake. I blew my head and now i have bad compression in some of my cylinders. im lucky im still able to drive it. I want to swap the stock motor with a b18c1 gsr motor.

    and my questions are:

    1. Would i need to change my mounts?

    2. What would i need to keep from my original motor? (i.e. wiring harnesses, ecu, etc.)

    3. Would i be able to keep my exhaust with the swap?

    4. Do you think its a good idea to go ahead with this swap? or should i just buy a rebuilt b18a1 engine and build that up?

    5. Is there anything else that i should know about with going through with this swap? How do i swap a b18c1 gsr engine in my 91 da integra?
1.. no you can use your stock mounts.

2.. keep your harness, and clutch if your not gonna replace it, keep it around for spare parts you might need... sensors ect

3.. yes, but not your header.

4..if you have the money to spend then yes the gsr is a much better motor.

5..i'd suggest converting to obd1 and using the p72 ecu. also in the future or right now if you have the money get a b16 or gsr trans, the ls trans sucks and you'll notice a big difference with a shorter b16 trans. How do i swap a b18c1 gsr engine in my 91 da integra?
every thing he said but if your going to use your obd 0 harness... you would need to route a vtec line and use an obd 0 b16 ecu

Online Resources for 1994 Dodge Ram 1500?

While I'm waiting for my service manual to ship here I thought I would do a little researching. To my dismay I would have to sit through days of results for google or bing to sift through advertisements and for sale websites.

I would like to know if anyone knows a good online forum/website where I can get good write ups or how to's on proper service maintenance. I have a small leak from the head gasket, burnt oil, and would like to perform a proper tuneup and oil change at the same time, since I just bought the truck and have no records of its history. I have had it checked out by a mechanic but they recommended that I get the mounts changed, yet gave no indication that they noticed the gasket leak or the burnt oil, but otherwise the truck was in really good condition for its mileage.

I would like to hear from those who have owned the same vehicle what are the recommended supplies as far as motor oil, filters, spark plugs, etc. Normally I use Mobil 1 and Bosch on my other vehicles (with never a problem) but with no records and the high mileage on this vehicle I am unsure if that's best.

if you don't have an owners manual on that truck go to this site an you can get one for it,the you,ll have the original maintenance schedule for it,mobil one and bosch is a good choice for oil in that truck though, good luck. http://bishkobooks.comOnline Resources for 1994 Dodge Ram 1500?
search it on the internet. there's also a site called dodgeforum.com you could ask a question in the 2nd generation ram section about how to do that. either that or search it. the guy's there are pretty good about that kind of stuff. I've asked on that forum before in the diesel section and they're always pretty good about it. so that's probably the best place to go. either that or see if you can find a chiltons book on that truck.

How can i change the spark plugs on a gm 3.4 v6?

My freind wanted me to change her spark plugs, and after looking at the car, because i know some cars are a pain, i found that the back three spark plugs are not readily accessible on her lumina.

the motor is mounted sideways, and the back three spark plugs are under the intake manifold slightly and also under the top lip of the hood, and against the firewall where hands and tools cannot fit, it MAYY be possible to get the left and right plugs, but the center plug is certainly out of the question.

What is the easiest way to access these plugs?

My only idea is to remove the intake manifold, but then i have to buy a new gasket, and i dont want to do that, are there alternatives? How can i change the spark plugs on a gm 3.4 v6?
You can get to it. Use a SWIVEL attachment on the Ratchet. I know i have a 97 lumina. I had the same problem. You have to have patience. good luckHow can i change the spark plugs on a gm 3.4 v6?
Unbolt the front engine mounts, and pivot the engine towrds you. THere is a special hold-down strap the will hold the engine in place while you complete your task. GET CREATIVE!!! While you are at it, install a set of Bosch Platinum, Fusion or nippondenso iridium plugs. THis will provide better fuel economy and power than the anemic factory units. Good Luck!!How can i change the spark plugs on a gm 3.4 v6?
go from underneath around the exhaust.... there is no easier way that car is pretty tough.... good luck, and don't take the intake off :)How can i change the spark plugs on a gm 3.4 v6?
If it has the curved intake take it off thats the only way to get to the plugs take the middle bolts out first then work your way out lift the intake off slowly and you might be ablt to reuse the gasket check it for splits or cracks if it looks goot then reuse it some dodge stratus's are the same way thats how you do it

Nissan Altima Repairs ... How crucial ?

I am in process of buying a 97 nissan altima , 120k , the quote is $2800. I got it checked from mechanic and he suggested following repairs.

    1) Strut Assembly

    2) Strut Mounts

    3) Motor Mounts

    4) Flat Belts

    5) Valve Cover Gasket, cover, outer

    6) Valve Cover Gasket, spark plug, inner

    7) flat P/S flush

    8) flat tranny flush

    9) flat coolant flush

    10) axle shaft seals

In all repairs worth 1900 $ including labour. I understand the motor mounts and struts .. but are other things required. how crucial are they. This might be a little bit silly as you havent seen the car, but still any suggestions.

The biggest cost in all is motor mounts. It costs about 900 including labour. They have never been changed in 120k. The car does vibrate a bit due to that, but if i dont change them what will be the effects ?

While driving, other then a little vibration the car drives pretty ok.

Looking forward to your help.Nissan Altima Repairs ... How crucial ?
Have a good look at the previous driver, was it a kid that thought he had a hot rod? Or was it a person who never maintained it, which seems to be the case. The machanic told you only what he could see, so how do you know there isn't something about to go out inside the engine like a spun crank bearing or a cracked valve guide?

I would suggest looking for a different vehicle for the price they are asking.

Unless you are like uncle moneybags and don't mind wasting the money on labor and parts which will make the cars price up in the $5-6k range. I am sure that you can find a better value out there for your money.Nissan Altima Repairs ... How crucial ?
No way it needs all that. My kid's 97 has 185K on it and hasn't needed any of that. Original axles, seals, gaskets, struts. Check the drive belts, see if it leaves much of a stain on the driveway overnight and just drive it.

And take it to a mechanic who doesn't have a drug habit to feed.Nissan Altima Repairs ... How crucial ?
Do you know this mechanic? Ask another mechanic, if he says the same thing, buy a different car for $4000.00 that doesn't need all this work.

  • Motor mount causing leaks?

Hi, I have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, a while ago it started making a sound under the hood when I switch gears or hit the gas or breaks, I found out my motor mount was loose. I'm getting it replaced tomorrow. A couple months ago when I got my oil changed they said it was leaking oil but I never saw any where I was parked. Could my motor mount being loose of caused this?? If so what could it be and how much do you think it would cost to fix.

Also, I'm getting the top motor mount replaced and the bottom, is there any thing else I should get replaced and should I have the mechanic check for leaks??Motor mount causing leaks?
The motor mount is external and will not cause an oil leak.

A bad pan gasket will cause an oil leak.Motor mount causing leaks?
Go with the mechanic on this one(the first answer) the most I can say is I had a honda and when my motor mount was bad ny steering wheel would shake really bad.Motor mount causing leaks?
a motor mount is where the motor is mounted on the frame. There is no fluid there to leak.

Nissans are good cars, if you do go through with the repairs, the car will probably last you a very long time. But, imports, as you know, are incredibly expensive to repair when something does go wrong.

I'm no mechanic, but the coolant flush is not necessary. You should not get the tranny flushed either, unless you notice significant problems in shifting.

I really don't know about the rest. I'd say for that year and that kind of mileage, you are probably getting a good deal buy paying $2800 for the car and getting the repairs done on top of that. Having said that, I would probably do it, but also be prepared to drive the car into the ground, because if you decide to sell it, you will not get out of it what you put into it, as far as a sale price goes.

If this is really causing you to struggle with a decision, I would not hesitate to take it somewhere else for a second (or even third) opinion. You will surely find out if you are getting scammed or not. If you happen to decide to follow through with all of the recommended repairs, it's not like you have to get everything done at once either. Nothing on that list is incredibly pressing, but I guess it's importance depends on what you intend to use the vehicle for. Transmission gears worn/messed up or is it the CV?

2000 Ford Contour SE front wheel drive. 4 cylinder (save the jokes, i know its not the best)... How do you know or what symptoms do you have when the gears in the transmission that work with the CV half shaft are worn out or messed up? I have this problem...

when I accelerate to go on the freeway or when I'm coming to a stop the left side starts to vibrate, I can hear %26amp; feel something grinding...

I have changed the tires, rotors, brake pads, motor mounts, transmission mounts, and it still does that. I'm about to change the CV half shaft on the left side, I have been to about 6-7 different shops and none could figure it out, they just gave me a guess and one said wait for it to get worst....I have been trying to figure out this problem since 2007.....Transmission gears worn/messed up or is it the CV?

    Fan clutch blowed up?

I have a 1990 F350 Crew Cab Long Bed(it turns as sharp as a freight train) with the stock fuel injected 351w. About a month ago it stalled, I re-cranked it and there was a whole series of bad sounds under the hood. I turned the key off immediately and pulled it back into my driveway with a chain.

From what I can tell it looks like the fan clutch literally exploded and a piece of it shot through the water pump and into the timing cover.

Its probably a good thing it happened because the water pump was probably about due to be changed and as I got in there I realized the timing chain was worn, and since a piece of fan clutch dropped into the oil pan I had to pull the oil pan which needed a new gasket. Had to pull the plenum to get the motor high enough to change the oil pan gasket so i needed a new plenum gasket too. Also realized it was time for motor mounts and valve cover gaskets and complete tune-up. Anyways the truck is back together and runs great and sounds great... well it sounds great everywhere except from the driver seat. lol the tailpipes are about 20 feet behind my head so I cant hear how beautiful my straight pipes sound from all the way up front. The truck has no catalytic convertors from the factory- I guess it counted as being a heavy duty truck and was exempt from certain emissions laws?

Anyways my question is this.... Anyone other than me ever heard of a fan clutch breaking the water pump and timing cover? I know a lot of mechanics and no one believes me. In my dirt track racing days ive seen plenty of fans come loose and hit the radiator but not the water pump and timing cover.Fan clutch blowed up?
I've never heard of it happening but when something is spinning over 1000 RPMs, anything can happen when something breaks loose.

I knew a guy got killed from a grinding wheel coming apart because he was grinding on the flat side of it. A piece went through his forehead.

Like I said, RPMs and breaking apart cause weird things to happen.Fan clutch blowed up?
    Never heard of it.

Most fan clutches are an oil chamber, and almost can't cause a problem. The worst they do is bind and stop slipping as they are supposed to. This does not sound like an oil hydrostatic clutch. I have seen clutches that were electric, but I don't see how they could blow either. I would love to see the pieces.Fan clutch blowed up?

Yep... a 12 to 15 hour job for a mechanic who knows what he's doing, in a shop with all the right tools and parts available to do the swap. Oh, yes... And a shop rate cost of about $75.00 per hour.

For all that, you get a 16 year-old engine with questionable reliability and really lousy fuel mileage!

I have a 2004 Dodge ram 1500 4.7 283cid and i blew the motor because i didnt change the oil for like 30000 miles but anyways i want to put a new motor in it i dont have to but want to its a 5 speed manual trans. and i would i like to try and throw a 5.7 hemi would it fit and what aould i have to change in order for it to run and how about motor mounts please details i cant understand themCan i do a engine swap on 2004 Dodge ram 1500 4.7 283?
it can be done, you have to do lot of wiring and change the transmission along with everything else on it,but it can be done, you also have to use the different mounts on it,and the radiator is different also, those also run different computers ,so you,ll just about need to find a vehicle that has a hemi in it so you can get all the necessary parts to do this with,a few people have already done this though with good results, good luck. Can i do a engine swap on 2004 Dodge ram 1500 4.7 283?
This is an easy swap. The best way to do it is to a 5.7 with

How long before a worn motor mount would HAVE to be replaced?

I KNOW I HAVE POSTED THIS BEFORE...PLEASE DON'T ANSWER IF YOU HAVE ANSWERED IT ALREADY. I'M JUST TRYING TO GET AS MUCH INFO AS POSSIBLE.

I have a 1996 Ford Escort LX Wagon. It is an automatic and it has 120k miles. When I am sitting still in reverse, there is a strong vibration. After doing some research I have narrowed it down to either a worn motor or trans mount.

My question - Would a worn motor mount absolutely HAVE to be fixed? It runs so smooth other than when you're sitting still in reverse...would there be any signs that I could listen for to know if it's getting worse? I am completely broke and I need to know if this is something that can be put off for a few months...

Also...Would there be any noises that I could listen for so that I know 100% that I need to change it soon? The vehicle runs perfectly smooth unless you are sitting still in reverse, so I'm guessing it isn't THAT bad yet...could a vibration while sitting still in reverse be ANYTHING other than a bad mount? If it was in horrible shape, wouldn't I hear or feel things in gears other than reverse? I am completely broke and I am trying to figure out if I should or can drive this vehicle to work.

turn off the engine, maybe wait till it cools. the belt goes to power steering, alternator, you need to loosen those nuts so you can get the old belt offHow do i change a belt on a 1995 pontiac grand am gt 3.1l v6?
If your 1995 Grand Am has a serpentine belt then you do not have to take off any mounts. All you need is a long 3/8 inch breaker bar to release the tension of the tensioner pulley and the belt will slip off. Just make sure that your route the new belt exactly as the old belt. Once you have made sure the belt is routed and seated properly, you can release the tensioner and it will tighten the belt. Run the engine to make sure all your accesories work and that the belt is tracking properly

How would I change the wheel bearing on my 1993 Saturn SL2?

I am pretty much a diy guy for everything. I slid my car into a curb a long time ago and replaced a lot of parts. Unfortunately my wheel bearing was off, and caused the front passenger wheel to go completely bald down to wires. I, like a fool, decided maybe it would be good to have a %26quot;professional%26quot; that a friend referred me to handle this one. I like doing my own work so that I know what all I did, and I can usually trace it back. This guy was very unprofessional, called me angrily saying he needed more money because apparently the half-shaft for an automatic is different than a manual (my car). He said that would need to be replaced, and a spindle (which should've came with it, as it came from a junkyard). Anyways, I continued this foolish game. When it was all finally done, he brought the car to me (the shop was just down the street), and I drove him home. I noticed the wheel was making a rubbing noise, and he said it was nothing, and it should go away. I drove it around for a while, but I have a different car that I had been driving instead (the a/c works). Months later, I decided to drive the saturn around and it is still making this rubbing noise. One of the motor mounts had been rotted, and I replaced it, which helped a lot, but the wheel is still making this rubbing noise. I am pretty sure it is not rubbing against anything, but it is hard to tell because the %26quot;professional%26quot; put the tire back on with an impact wrench and I can't get the wheel off. Any ideas? If it is the wheel bearing...how would I replace it? I believe they are sealed bearings, but I'm not sure if it needs to be pressed out or if I could hammer it out and a new one in.How would I change the wheel bearing on my 1993 Saturn SL2?
if your going to change the bearing, i,ll tell you the way i do it. i pound the old bearing out and i put the new bearing in the freezer and when i,am ready for it, it will slip right in. steel will shrink when they are cold and expand when it warms up. buy the bearing, put it in the freezer for about a day or 2, pound the bearing out, take the new bearing and put it in a ice chest and when your ready for it, it should slip right in where the old 1 came out. i did that several times. How would I change the wheel bearing on my 1993 Saturn SL2?

I wanna replace the bottom center mount on my 2002 ford focus ZTS, Automatic. DOHC. My car gives a push when changing gears and I think it's the mount. I know that my car has two mounts on top, one on each side(right and left). What is the other one called? Is the %26quot;dog bone%26quot; the same as the transmission mount? Do I need to replace the three? How many motor and transmission mounts are there? Please help. Thank you.Is it a motor mount or a transmission mount?
Best to insect he mounts with 2 people. One person holds the brake and shifts from Drive to Neutral to Reverse while the other person watches the engine's movement. You can then watch the mounts to see which ones are allowing the engine and tranny to move excesively. The lower mounts are harder to inspect w/o gettign under the car. You may be better off finding a shop that does free diagnostic. They can put it on a lift or drive it over a pit to inspect the lower mounts.

It's called a tranny mount if it's connected to the tranny. It's a motor mount f it's connected to the motor.

The dog bone is a %26quot;torque strut%26quot; or %26quot;torque mount%26quot;.Is it a motor mount or a transmission mount?
Many shops will diagnose for free. My shops diagnose up to 1 hr at no charge. If you're in Southern CA, email me. Diagnostic doesn't just apply to check engine lights. Diagnostic is any time you diagnose a problem, whether it's a misfire or weird noise.

If you're getting throttle steer torque, you more than likely have a transmission problem with the power being distributed to only one wheel.

    Not a transmission/transaxle mount problem.

Motor swap from quad 4 to a V-6 how complicated?

Was wondering if all I had to do was mounts and change out the computer also use existing wire harnessMotor swap from quad 4 to a V-6 how complicated?
very hard not worth itMotor swap from quad 4 to a V-6 how complicated?
are you serious? you're going to try to put a V-6 in a car that originally had a 4 cylinder?

well, if you were going to do it, you would need to develop new mounting hardware, re-do pretty much all the engine related wiring, you would have to find ways to mechanically link the engine to all the other stuff like the alternator, power steering, water pump, etc. Plus you would need a new transmission that is tuned for the higher torque of the larger engine.

Trust me, if you try to do this, you will destroy your vehicles. If you need to ask questions online to figure it out, then you don't have the experience you would need to do this.

Just sell the car and buy one with a bigger engine. It will be cheaper, faster, and easier than a do-it-yourself job.

If you insist on doing this, would you please send me the address where you will be performing the work. I just might stop by to laugh at you when you realize the new engine won't fit and you've destroyed the car so badly that you can't even get the old engine back in.Motor swap from quad 4 to a V-6 how complicated?
the other guy was right but not completely and a bit harsh there. if you have a car that comes out with a v6 as an option then its possible you just need a donor car, cause you need to change the mounts tranny and exhaust and some mo things like the computer/ wireing and yeah somemo things. so yeah its easyer to get one that has it but its so much more rewarding when you do it yourself.Motor swap from quad 4 to a V-6 how complicated?

Chevy 350 in 89 Caprice Wagon? How hard could it be?!?

I have just purchased a bone-stock 1989 Chevy Caprice Wagon that is in excellent shape. However, I absolutely hate the stock performance of the Olds 307 motor that came in this car! Is there any simple way that I could make this engine perform better? Or, better yet, could I swap in a higher power carbureted Chevy 350 motor without having to change the engine mounts or my transmission? Would a swap like this be completely bolt-up, or is there more to it that I'm missing?Chevy 350 in 89 Caprice Wagon? How hard could it be?!?
It's 455 time. Other than that, if you wanted a chevy engine. You will need a transmission to complete the swap. At the very least an adapter plate to be able to bolt your BOP style transmission, unless the transmission is a dual patterned trans, which is a rarity.Chevy 350 in 89 Caprice Wagon? How hard could it be?!?
To change to Chevy about everything would need changed as the Olds and Chevy are completely different. The easiest bolt in would be and Olds 350 or 455. Either would be a direct exchange.............mdChevy 350 in 89 Caprice Wagon? How hard could it be?!?
Swap in a chevy 350. Its not that hard of swap. The cars was offered with a chevy v8 so all mounting holes and everything is there

Yes you will need to change the engine mounts but its a 30 min job at most and only will run you $25

The stock mounts bolts to engine crossmember with 3 bolts per mount (2 mounts) Remove them

Holes in crossmember for the chevy mounts.. Buy new ones at parts store for $20-25) and bolt them in place

You may or may or may not need a $30 trans adapter plate to hook your olds trans to chevy engine. Alot of cars in the 80's that used buick, or olds engines used a 200 4r trans with a uni fit bellhousing that has the bolt holesfor chevy and olds engines.. So if thats what you have, its a bolt on thing there

If not, you just buy a $30 adapter plate from like speedway motors (cheapest place on that adapter) and bolt to back of chevy engine and yours olds trans will bolt right up to that

You will also need chevy exhaust manifolds or headers

Thats pretty much it really. If you have the few needed parts on hand, it wouldnt take any longer to do that swap than a gen engine pull and install

2003 NISSAN MURANO elcetric motor mount problems?

Hi, the 2 elec. mounts on my Murano are making noises when I either put it in gear or turn off the ignition... Is this dangerous for my computer if I don't change the parts? The dealership is asking $1500 CAD to replace the parts and labor. Follow the wires from the mounts to the two brown plugs and just un plug them I do not think the check engine light will turn on. Shorted mounts could dammage the engine control computer. tranny should work, but if not there are always adapter kits that will make it work. But I would keep that 4.9 stright6 more torque if you off road, torque is better than H.P,it is about the same size engine, just the inline 6 will last longer and you can pull more.

  • How big of a problem would i have if i took a motor out of a wrecked srt4 and wanted to put it in my 2000 neon

i want to know about what i would have to change for wiring and mounts, pretty much if it will be worth the task. How big of a problem would i have if i took a motor out of a wrecked srt4 and wanted to put it in my 2000 neon
you're looking at a lot of work. i own an 05 srt-4 and the engine compartment isn't even configured like a stock neon. all the drive train mounts are different, the wiring is completely different, the cooling system mounts differently to make room for the intercooler, plus a ton of other differences. if you can get the whole front end(framerails and all) plus the complete exhaust system(manifold to tips) that would help. oh, the intake manifold is cast so it's one piece for all the turbo mounting/ports/ect... so you must have that. anything is possible, with the right amount of cash and know how(or who)and that srt setup bone stock is sick as hell. but if you're on a budget, you might be better off going the intake/chip exhaust route. just make sure you upgrade the cat, thats where most of your power is lost on the backside. but if you have time(a lot) and the extra bucks, it can be done just dont plan on doing it over a 3 day weekend. on a side note, finding a salvage 2000-05 neon to build a drag car out of is an option. those 2.4l have been known to push 350 h.p. and 400lbs. torque with the stage 3 kit from mopar and a little tuning. also had a friend in vegas put a subaru sti in a sand rail. just some optionsHow big of a problem would i have if i took a motor out of a wrecked srt4 and wanted to put it in my 2000 neon
    Rumor has it................

For to even be fisable, you need pretty much everthing from a SRT-4, like the cradle, trany, CV-shafts. You'd be looking at a SRT-4 front end pretty much. In a nutshell, sounds like it'd be easier to just to buy a SRT-4.How big of a problem would i have if i took a motor out of a wrecked srt4 and wanted to put it in my 2000 neon
the only way it would really be possible to do this is have a wrecked srt setting beside of this one, then you could swap everything out on them, but honestly its more work than the car is going to be worth, you,d be better off getting a nice srt ,and being done with it,its a lot of work, you could do it with a good parts car,but there may be things you would still have to buy ,no one i know has ever done it before, good luck with it.How big of a problem would i have if i took a motor out of a wrecked srt4 and wanted to put it in my 2000 neon
im sorry doing anything with a neon except driving it to the salvage yard makes no sense.

Honda odyssey 2002: how difficult to change power steering pump belt?

My Odyssey needs a new power steering pump belt. There is a motor mount in the center of the transverse v6 and this belt goes right around it - so it looks like replacing this belt requires lifting the motor to get the belt around this mount, is that right?

Anyone with an estimate to do the work?Honda odyssey 2002: how difficult to change power steering pump belt?
Depends were u go. I have seen from .5 to 2.0 hours of labor. I think 1.0 is good. You have to loose the p/s pump and remove that engine mount u don't need to lift the engine. removed the other belt for a/c and alternator don't remove any bolts for this one just release pressure from tensioner. replace p/s belt and reinstalled everything the same way it was. Good luck!

I have the motor mounts loosened, the pan is disconnected but lacks about 2 inches roughly to clear the cross-member and fly-wheel. Local mechanics here wanted $320.00 to do this job and that just seems horribly unrealistic. Are there an reasonable ideas you guys might have? Unbolt the motor mounts, Jack up the engine a couple of inches or until it hits the firewall (be careful not to damage the distributor) and wedge some wooden blocks between the motor mounts and the frame....enough to give you clearance to remove the pan. Make sure nothing else is in the way of or preventing jacking up the engine like radiator fan shrouding or any cables, hoses, linkages that might be affected.

A Chilton or Haynes shop manual from a parts store or local library will help explain what is needed to do the job and pays for itself with a couple of repairs. How do you change the oil pan in a %26039;72 Nova?

my friend says there is something wrong with the motor mounts on my car.

what are motor mounts, what are they used for, how long do they take to fix/replace, and tell me if you think its the motor mounts as well:

this is what happend to my car.

while i was driving i ran out of oil (my car was due for an oil change mixed with a tiny tiny tiny leak, my car eventually ran out of oil)

so i pulled over into the nearest gas station and put oil in my car.

i waited and waited, eventually i started my car, and it would turn over, but the engine would not stop shaking.

i towed it home, waited til afternoon that day to try to start it again.

by this time my friend was there to look at it.

i started it, it still shook prety bad, but the car would still be put into gear so i tried to drive it around a bit. it still shook and would hardly accelerate.

then eventually, it like seized up again and the engine died..

my friend believes its the motor mounts that are causing the engine to shake. cuz i have enough oil in my car and enough gas.

Its not the motor mounts being a trained auto tech for 11 years once the car runs out of oil and seizes the motor is usually no good, it could have internal damage, the motor mounts only keep the motor from falling out. make sure there's 4 1/2 quarts of oil in it. see if the check engine or service soon light is on and stays on. if so it could be a misfire or something else is going on. it needs to be taken to a shop to be looked atMotor mounts on a %26039;94 honda?
well you are a bloody idiot for driving it after it ran out of oil! you obviously know nothing about how an engine works, and lack all common sense. motor mounts are what MOUNT THE MOTOR to the car. simple enough? by driving without oil, you have destroyed your engine, and most likely made it worse by driving it again. waiting to start it does nothing. you could have waited a year and it still would have been broken. seized means that it is locked up, with little hope of it working properly again. congratulations, you successfully destroyed your car. %26quot;cuz i have enough oil in my car and enough gas.%26quot;-well smarty pants, if i smash my car engine with a sledge hammer and then dismantle it, it won't start, even if there is gas and oil in it. do you know why? because it is destroyed! if my TV is smashed, just because i plug it in, doesn't mean it will work.

    2000 Chevy cavalier problems?

Hi i have a 2000 Chevy cavalier. I have several problems with this car...its a cavalier. Well its my only car that i can afford epically with the gas being so high. One of my major concerns is there is a loud knocking noise when i step on the gas accompanied with major vibration. I have changed the motor mount the toque mount and the transmission mount still does the same thing. There is also oil in my blow by but none i can see in my air filter what does that mean, and what do i need to do to fix it? I have already replaced the motor in this car because my timing belt broke and the person i sent it too said it would be cheaper this way. I have no idea how many miles are on the motor just the vehicle itself. I also would like to know what are some cheep performance parts i could just slap on to make this car tolerant it is a 2000 Chevy cavalier...of course...2 door coupe with just a standard 2.2L. If you could also help me out with a website that sells cheep performance parts as well that would be awesome. Thanks for all your time.2000 Chevy cavalier problems?

I would pay him a visit. The knocking noise with the vibration sounds like it might be a piston rod. I would definately pay that mechanic a visit!!.2000 Chevy cavalier problems?
Does the car run hot or use any water at all? I had a cavalier too and had sooooo many problems!!!2000 Chevy cavalier problems?
First of all, I believe that your motor doesn't have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. Unlike a belt, they become badly stretched and won't break.

Secondly, the blow by could mean as little as a faulty PCV valve or as major as bad piston rings. If your motor is hitting the firewall, that is due to a bad installation and should be checked for safety reasons as well as the knocking nuisance.

Lastly, you can find many parts for your Cavalier. I found some on eBay, Summit Racing Equipment or just Google: %26quot;Cavalier Performance Parts%26quot;. I have even found a turbocharger for mine that will make it capable of running 12's in the quarter.

By the way, I own a 2004 Chevy Cavalier and the only things replaced on it are the headlights, brakes, tires and oil. It has over 120.000 miles on it and still runs like a raped ape! They are a great car. Most people neglect the crap out of them and still expect them to run like a new car.

    Car trouble please help!!?

Hi i have a 2000 Chevy cavalier. I have several problems with this car...its a cavalier. Well its my only car that i can afford epically with the gas being so high. One of my major concerns is there is a loud knocking noise when i step on the gas accompanied with major vibration, it sounds like the motor is hitting up against something. I have changed the motor mount the toque mount and the transmission mount still does the same thing. There is also oil in my blow by but none i can see in my air filter what does that mean, and what do i need to do to fix it? I have already replaced the motor in this car because my timing chain broke and the person i sent it too said it would be cheaper this way. Thanks for all your time.Car trouble please help!!?
it sounds like this engine is on the way out putting parts on an engine that might be on the way out is not going to do anything but throw your money out the window go to a couple of shops and get an opinion and go from thereCar trouble please help!!?
Please fix your cars problems before investing money into modifications. I highly recommend an oil catch can because from the sounds of it, you could really use it to prevent the oil getting into your intake which undoubtedly is going to rob you of fuel economy not to mention that if the filter becomes saturated then you are going to see more problems.Car trouble please help!!?
    Good grief....you have a serious problem with this engine spewing out oil and making loud knocking noises and you end your question with %26quot;help me out with a web site that sells cheap performance parts?%26quot;

I have no idea how many miles are on the motor just the vehicle itself. I plan on rebuilding the motor or just replacing it myself with maybe a 2.4L or a 2.2L, 2.4L Ecotec, if anyone could help me find a website that has rebuild kit's or that sells these motors that would be great. It's just a basic 2000 chevy cavalier with a stock 2.2L engine in it.Can ANYONE help me please!!!!?
First off the knocking noise could be one of your CV Joints. A bearring could be broken.

If you replaced your mounts and got all the bolts are back in theres no way it can be tilted.

The oil could be a bad PCV letting oil get by. Change it. Next do a compression test to make sure it's not piston rings and or seals.

Run some Rislone or Zmax in the engine to help clean out any build up sluge and or varnish.

Stick with a 2.2l that way you don't have to do any thing with wireing or computer.

rebuild kets. Summit Raceing, Jegs, or even your parts store should carry rebuild kits.

Check the front end out before your go doing any engine rebuilding.

A timing chain isn't that bad to change.

Hope it works out for you.

Cost for replacing front right motor mount for Nissan Altima 2005 2.5L?

How much does it usually cost to change the front right motor mount. I feel some shuddering and humming noise when driving at speed of 60 mph and above

After diagnosis, there is no transmission or engine problemCost for replacing front right motor mount for Nissan Altima 2005 2.5L?
The right front motor mount would cost somewhere around $150-200, depending on the year of your car and where you buy the part from. If you had a mechanic put on the motor mount, it shouldn't take more than 1 hour to install it, but labor varies between shops. Expect to pay at least $100 for labor, I would say.

Will replacing transmission mount solve the noise problem?

This is about my 2000 Nissan Altima, Automatic Trans, FWD, 102300 miles.

My car has a scary knocking noise when I accelerate from idle, and when I brake at very slow speed. I brought it into a dealer, they said the idler pulley bearing is bad and two cross member motor mounts split open.

I let them change the pulley bearing ($111 ). Then, I brought my car to another mechanic who changed the 2 motor mounts for me ($310). --- the dealer would do it for $528.

BUT, the noise is still there! The last mechanic guy told me that my transmission mount is very soft but no crack yet. He can change it for $200.

    My question is

    1) How could I know if changing transmission mount will fix my noise problem?

    2) What harm can a soft transmission mount do to the car other than making noise?

    3) Is the price the mechanic gave me sound right?

Thanks! Will replacing transmission mount solve the noise problem?
A Soft Transmission Mount can Cause Noise a shortly Break completely, Yeah Replace it. Sounds a little like the mount isn't the complete problem, sound like your brake Pads or Shoes may be Hanging Up and need to be Inspected and/or repaired.

To Check the Mounts; With the Car %26quot;Out of Gear%26quot; Reeve the Engine Not Fully but Quickly 2 or 3 times, Now %26quot;In Gear%26quot; 1 or 2 times. Feel it In Gear? Will replacing transmission mount solve the noise problem?
Loud noises are pretty easy. I'm surprised these guys couldn't fix it. I think the transmission mount will be pretty easy to replace, but I don't know what it costs. Go to rockauto.com and look up a transmission mount for your car.

However, I'm not convinced it's a transmission mount. The fact that it makes the noise under low-speed braking is not really consistent with the noise being caused by the drivetrain.

    Mount problems?

Hello. I have a 1999 lexus es300 with 83000 miles. I went to the dealer to get an oil change and also told him to check out my car because their is excessive vibration when I am idle with the gear on D. He said that I need to get the transmission mounts and motors mounts changed. I am not sure what and how many mounts it is. He gave me the part numbers and they describe the following:

    1.Engine/transaxle-Engine and trans mounting-front mount-w/variable timing

    2.Engine/transaxle-Engine and trans mounting-Torque rod

    3.Engine/transaxle-Engine and trans mounting-Rear mount-w/ variable timing

    4.Front suspension-Drive axles-Stub Shaft-Bearing Bearing Back

    5. Engine/transaxle-Engine and trans mounting-Side mount-w/ variable timing

    6.Emission system-Emission Components-vacuum valve 3

The are the parts needed to get my car fixed. I am a bit confused. I am not sure what is messed up with my car and what mounts need to be changed. Can you please help me in understanding this?Mount problems?
1,2,3, are types of motor mounts that hook to the motor

    1. is from front of motor to frame like by radiator they should be sort of wishbone shaped

2,3, are in back of motor, go from motor to either firewall or transmission

4,5 these are your drive axles, they go from wheels to transmission

6 is just what it says a vacuum valve probably for smog

go to any auto zone, kragens etc and ask for prices, you would be better off buying your own parts and finding either private party or small garage to install them for youMount problems?
the mounts are rubber there are several different qualities of rubber air and the environment act like a corrosive on all of them some more than others if you replace one mount and something goes wrong they ll say you didn't replace them all. If you have the money replace all of them if not go to a independent shop and replace the ones that are broken and take it easy on the car. I could see the dealer wanting almost a $1000Mount problems?
IT IS STRANGE THAT THEY WANT YOU TO CHANGE ALL THESE MOUNTS !!!! IT IS NOT NORMANL THAT ALL MOUNTS GO BAD IN THE SAME TIME. HERE IS THE WAY TO FIND WHICH MOUNT IS BAD , LET SOMEBODY SET IN THE CAR WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKES KEEP SHIFTING THE TRANSMISION BETWEEN P TO D AND YOU KEEP WATCHING THE ENGINE MOVING AND IF YOU LOOK CAREFULLY YOU WILL FIND THE BROKEN MOUNTMount problems?
Not sure what reggie is smoking but your mounts are 1, 3 and 5. If you need one, it's smart to change all three. Why?, because when one mount fails, the other two recieve excessive vibration and wear rapidly. They might not look bad at this time, but you will be changing them sooner than later. Easy as pie to do if you are somewhat mechchanically inclined. If you don't know the difference between a socket and a wrench, then get someone to do it for you.

I have a rough idle! Help!?

I have a very bad idle when I'm in the D position. But when I put it in neutral or park, it lessens. I've changed my pcv valve, air filter, timing belt, and spark plugs/wires so far. What could it be? I will be flushing my coolant(irrelevant) and replacing my fuel filter soon. Will that help, or is it my motor mounts?

Also my check engine light is on and I have to change both o2 sensors.

How much is it to change the motor mount? Easy job for a weekend mechanic or no?I have a rough idle! Help!?
It could be the idle speed too low it should be at 900 or choke is sticking the motor mounts are esey too do and is the check engine light still on go buy the reader at local auto store 20 bucks take care of that problemI have a rough idle! Help!?
i dont believe its the motor mounts because it would shutter the whole car regardless of whether its in gear or not. the fuel filter may very well solve your problem, depending on how long its been since its been changed. bad oxygen sensors could also potentially be the same since they can make the car misfire if theyre worn. good luck. shouldnt be too bad.I have a rough idle! Standing in front of the car. You have a front wheel drive engine mounted setup. There is one near the lower part of the radiator. There is one to the left side of the engine (actually the front of the engine) on the finder weld area, there will be on next to the firewall at the bottom of the engine on the back side. There is three and one shock type and a wishbone type mount. Good Luck and GOD Bless

i don't know why you would put a pontiac 350 in it. you have to mod. the motor mounts. unless you have money and time into the pontiac 350 i would build the chevy. parts are cheap and a dime a dozen. I have an 1981 firebird with a small block chevy in it I want to change it to a 350 pontiac motor....what kind
The 350 Pontiac engines that I know of from possibly 1970 on, and especially the 1977 and ups were the same except for maybe intake manifold height, carb or air cleaner style.I have an 1981 firebird with a small block chevy in it I want to change it to a 350 pontiac motor....what kind
Get the motor mounts for the Trans am and the frame mounts for the same car. The bosses in the side of the block should be the 3 bolt type because that is what the older 78 %26amp;79 TAs had. Honestly, the 350 Pontiac engine like my Pontiac 350 are harder to build to make good power than the small block Chevy motors unless its a 305. There are alot of upgrades that will just bolt onto the chevy to make big power. Some of the Pontiac 350s will not accept the large valve heads with the 2.11 %26amp; 1.77 valves because the bores are too small. You also cannot put a large lift cam with 1.65 rocker arms because of pushrod clearance issues. read up at the sites like

You need motor mounts for a Trans Am with a 400 in it. You can get that at the auto parts store. You'll also need the Trans Am engine brackets (the part you can't get at the store). That might be the reason your engine is sitting so high.I have an 1981 firebird with a small block chevy in it I want to change it to a 350 pontiac motor....what kind
There are plenty of aftermarket suppliers that have what you need. Year One comes directly to mind. The mounts from any '70-'81 Firebird that had a Pontiac V8 should work except maybe the 301 engine. The others are all the same on the outside.

Good luck and have fun with it when it's finished.

2000 Plymouth Neon idles at low RPMs in warm weather and feels like its going to stall. Why?

2000 Plymouth Neon. Just had it in this shop for this on-going problem, but nothing seems to fix it. When it's warm outside and the car is warmed up, in drive and in idle, the RPMs (which normally are at 800 or so when the car is cold or the weather is cold) drops down to 590-610 and the car begins to shake, but not stall.

I can make this go away by giving it gas, putting the transmission in neutral, or in park.

The car drives well. It just recently had spark plugs and wires changed, motor and transaxle mounts replaced, oil change, etc. etc.

It feels like the car is running too lean, but I can't figure out why this is only happening while at idle in drive and only on warm days.

Any ideas what this is and how to fix it?2000 Plymouth Neon idles at low RPMs in warm weather and feels like its going to stall. Why?

    How important are motor mounts?

Will the motor drop out if they are not repaired? I have hade mine repaired twice this winter but I see no significant change. My mechanic wants to refund money for previous repairs and go to the dealer to purchase motor mounts. Not sure what to do.

I would appreciate suggestions from someone with a serious, knowledgeable resolutionHow important are motor mounts?
I would say that if you've had to have two fixed within a six month period of time, which is what I assume you mean by this winter, then it's probably an indication of something bigger. I would have a full check out of everything done, just to make sure that something else isn't broken that could be causing them to break, such as your tranny mounts. Also, yeah, motor mounts are extremely important to your vehicle. It's very unsafe to drive without them. You need to get them fixed. If your motor isnt in the right place, where it's supposed to be, it could cause the front/rear weight ratio to be thrown off, which could cause too much torque, or, it could break something else, like the guy before me said, your tranny mounts. How important are motor mounts?
No, the engine will not fall out without motor mounts. Broken mounts will lead to serious problems only over a long period (depending on the car, driving habits, etc.) Also, if the engine is not running smoothly you will feel excessive vibrations. New mounts are much more desirable than repairing old ones, but you DO NOT need to get them from a Dealer! There is no shortage of third party (non-dealer) manufacturers of high quality parts out there! Any parts house like Auto-Zone etc., has or can get you motor mounts at a fraction of the dealer price! How important are motor mounts?
Not knowing if it's front wheel drive or rear heres the deal. If it's rear wheel drive it changes the angle of the drive line and therefore can destroy the third member in the rear end costing hundreds of dollars, if it is front wheel drive it will damage the transmission and possibly the radiator and other engine components. costing you a lot of money. If your mechanic is wanting to refund the money and get factory parts he has a concern that he is worried about and is trying to take care of you, follow the mechanic's advise it sounds like you have a very good mechanic follow his advice. Without knowing what type of car it is it's hard to say what damage it could cause, shifting linkage wiring harness, breaking a fuel line starting a fire all types of things could happen, so listen to him. and Be sure you Give him a Tip By him lunch he is Trying to do what is best for you without charge that is above and beyond the call of duty, or your a very good looking single woman. How important are motor mounts?
Motor mounts are incredibly important. They hold your engine in place, which is important going over bumps and stuff yeah, but also, if you open your hood while the car is running, you'll notice most engines has a slight shake to them. This is because an engine has pistons pumping up and down at high rates of speed, and any movement like that will move an engine, so if you dont have a motor mount installed, it will shake more, especially driving it around, and cause other parts in the engine to break. If the motor isnt held in place, the hoses, belts, etc could snap, costing you hours of anger and a butt load of money. So get it fixed asap! It's important! How important are motor mounts?
Motor mounts are very important, they keep the motor in the right location. I have had two motor mounts broken before. I think one broke and the engine torque caused the other one to go. Anyway, I floored the engine and it raised up and twisted and it blocked the accelerator linkage and the motor stayed at full throttle after I took my foot of the gas. Luckily, I threw the transmission into neutral and this took the torque off the motor and it returned to its original position and released the linkage for the carb. So yeah they are important.

I can't imagine why you have had to have them replaced twice in a year. If the mechanic is willing to refund your money and have you go to the dealer to get the mounts replaced, then that sounds very fair and I would do it.

Do get them replaced, it could be a matter of safetyHow important are motor mounts?
Depends on the vehicle, did they change all the mounts? How important are motor mounts?
they are very important, because they keep your engine from jumping around and maybe breaking something else, like a tranny mount and its hard on axles too.just buy some new ones.

I was told my motor mounts in my 92 Hyundai Sante Fe are going, How do I tell if this is the problem?

When you put your foot on the break pedal and then shift from park to reverse then into drive my engine does rock. I observed this yesterday 6/15 when the oil change place was flusing my transmission. I was subquently told the engine %26quot;rocking%26quot; was from motor mounts that need replacing.I was told my motor mounts in my 92 Hyundai Sante Fe are going, How do I tell if this is the problem?
if movement is visable try lightly accelerating your engine while holding foot on brake and transmission engaged. If movement is eccessive mounts should be replaced.I was told my motor mounts in my 92 Hyundai Sante Fe are going, How do I tell if this is the problem?
If the engine is rocking, it's a pretty good indication the mounts are going bad. You may also hear a %26quot;clunk%26quot; noise (especially when the engine falls out!). (Only kidding!) I would have them changed as there is a very real possibility that a total engine mount failure is abouit to occur. That would increase the cost since the damage would not be confined to the engine, but possibly the radiator, transmission or drive train as well.

Motor mounts are actually really easy, they are pretty much just a big bushing with a bolt running through it, all you have to do is jack up the car and put it on jack stands, than jack up the engine a little bit with a 1/2 inch thick piece of wood under the transmission, than unbolt the old mount and bolt on the new mount, than lower the engine, and lower the vehicle.

as for finding an illustration online, good luck, best thing i ever found was http://www.chiltononline.com, you have to pay like $30 to be a member, but if you work on cars alot its worth it... other than that, just buy a chilton or haynes book at your local auto parts store for about $15.How do you do it yourself change, 1989 cadillac eldorado motor mount?

I'm looking for any useful tips in replacing this motor mount. Not sure where the best spot is at to brace the motor.

I'm planning on running the truck up on ramps, then cuming up from the bottom with a floor jack for support of the motor.

I may be attempting this in the next 7 days or sooner.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.How do I change my 88 Chevy S10 driver motor mount?
If possible, it is always best to place the jack under a solid part of the block. Most of the time this is not possible. I usually end up placing it under the oil-pan. Always use a block of wood between the jack and the pan to keep from damaging the pan. Before putting any pressure on the pan remove the nut from the mounting bolt. Place a small amount of pressure on the pan and remove the bolt. Lift the engine just enough to be able to remove the mount and install another. (It may be necessary to remove the mounting bolt on both sides) After installation of the new motor mount lower the engine and replace the bolt. How do I change my 88 Chevy S10 driver motor mount?
A safer and easier idea may be to use an engine lift if you can borrow one, and then lift from the top from an accessory bolt from the head on the driver's side. Even so, make sure that you have something like a jack stand under the engine when you do that. At least then you will only be working around a jack stand instead of both that and a jack. You'll like having the extra room.

Which is the better motor for a 69 Mustang: 351 Windsor or 460?

And how hard is it to change the motor mounts for the larger engine?Which is the better motor for a 69 Mustang: 351 Windsor or 460?
The 460 would fit but it would be tight and require specialty headers. The 351W will bolt right in and use many stock parts.

My favorite for a 69 Mustang would be the 351C (my 1970 had one) but since you don't have ready access to one I would lean toward the 351W.

The 460 will, like you said, cost more. The extra weight will require better front springs, shocks, sway bar and brakes to make it a comfortable driver. It will also need a bigger radiator and possibly a bigger rear axle.

If you only want to go in straight lines and not stop quickly, then go for the big block. It would look more impressive in that engine bay.

    Either way, have fun

use the 351w it is a better hp to weight balance, if you use the big block, be very careful applying brakes the car will go into a spin too much weight on the front end will cause the rear end to come around to eliminate? or control this problem you will need a brake proportioning valve for the mast

People act like you are going to be doing this for a daily driver I take it you will be driving it when you want to have fun, with that in mind go with the 460 it will produce tons of torque and I still cant understand why people think a small block revs higher or faster than a big block they do not, plus there are plenty of 68-71 model 429 heads out there check on Ebay, just installing a stock set raises compression from 8:1 up to around the 9.25 :1 ratio with no other mods, and you get the cool factor for running a Big Block Ford in a 69 Mustang both are rare these days and lets face it if you were really after better fuel mileage we would not be talking about 460 any way.Which is the better motor for a 69 Mustang: 351 Windsor or 460?
351, because the 460 is too wide, doesnt fit. The 429 boss had the inner fenders and spring perches modified to fit. Modifying the 351 is going to be cheaper and easier too

Neither one. You want the 429. Use the 460 block and change the heads. You will go from the 365h.p. in the 460 to 425h.p. in the 429. I know because I did it 2 yrs ago to my 1972.Which is the better motor for a 69 Mustang: 351 Windsor or 460?
While the 460 wasn't offered in the 69, it can be installed with aftermarket parts...The 351 would be a much simpler install and still have great potential..Which is the better motor for a 69 Mustang: 351 Windsor or 460?

    How to swap a 292 inline 6 for a 350 engine?

I'm trying to figure out how difficult it will be for me (bellhousing, bolts, tranny, etc) to remove the original 292 inline six motor that came with my 1965 chevy 1/2 ton c-10, and put in a newer 350 engine. Do I need to change motor mounts, etc? Is there any benefit in just rebuilding the 292?How to swap a 292 inline 6 for a 350 engine?
It should change over easily. You will need new motor mounts and you will need to install a bigger radiator for the 350. The stock radiator isnt large enought. How to swap a 292 inline 6 for a 350 engine?
With gas prices going up, why in the world would you want to do that?

A stock truck, is worth WAY more money. Especialy a classic like that.

  • 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 318 (5.2) to 360 (5.9) Swap...?

So, my old Ram has a lot of miles, but still looks pretty good. Rather then spending enough money to buy a house on a new truck, I'd rather fix mine up. If I'm going to put a new engine in it, I'd rather go for a 5.9, but I'm not sure how much work is actually involved... Do I need to change the wiring harness for the computer, does the fan shroud need changed, will it bolt strait up or will I have to change motor mounts, will it work with the existing transmission, and will I have to change the gear ratio at all? Any and all help will be appreciated, but I'm looking for anyone who's actually done it to my generation of Ram. Many thanks!1996 Dodge Ram 1500 318 (5.2) to 360 (5.9) Swap...?
These 2 engines are the same block, so motor mounts, transmission hookup, fan shroud and such would all be the same. Wiring harness should be pretty much the same too, assuming you get a 5.9 with the same fuel injection (all 93-96 V8's probably) and ignition system (all same years of V8's should have Electronic Distributor Ignition System) setup. Other than the actual engine swap, about the only other thing you should need would be to change to the 5.9 Powertrain Control Module, because they are calibrated differently for the internal size increase. The donor vehicle vehicle having the same transmission would probably help with the computer compatibility too. Both engines were offered in the era in question, with the 5.9 found a little more often in 4wd models, and the 5.2 a little more common in 2wd models.

How to put a motor mount?

I have a 89 Honda civic trying to change the rear motor mount on it put the back bolt on it it's really hard to get out there's no space on the sides or on the bottom to reach it with a wrench or sochet wrench... Any help how to take out the bolt would help thanksHow to put a motor mount?
try taking off the whole mount.meaning where it connects to your engine and where it connects to your frame.be sure and support engine. How to put a motor mount?
Your best bet would be to consult a manual. If you do not own one and can buy one, you can purchase one at Auto Zone or Oriely's. If you want to save a few bucks go to the local library and check one out. The manual will give you the best and easiest way to get the motor mount changed. Also check out the Auto Zone website, which has a place that shows how to perform different types of maintenance.

    Good luck,

Does anybody have any instructions on how to change the front motor mount of a 03 Honda odyssey.?

Front and side motor mounts are badDoes anybody have any instructions on how to change the front motor mount of a 03 Honda odyssey.?
you have to remove the intake manifold and ignition coil covers and the upper radiator cover to get to the front engine mount. It takes about 2 hours to replace it if you're in a shop and have all the tools.

if you want the instructions I can scan them and send them to you but you need to send me your regular email address as I can't attach a file to a Yahoo Answer. to send me the email address and keep it out of the searchable Yahoo Answers database, click on the icon above my name to the left of this answer then select 'email' from the upper right corner and click on that. In the email include your email address and I'll send the instructions to you.

Motor mounts for Ford taurus 1992 SW- how much it would cost to replace it?

I had this care for morethan a year, paid $1300 and it was in great condition. now I am selling It, but , the thing is I am not in the States now and the guy who wants to buy it offers me $750 for the car only if it's worth changing the motor mount. So, I don't know if there is one or more motor mounts in my 3.8 V6 engine and what is the price for it. If anyone could give some feedback on that I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.Motor mounts for Ford taurus 1992 SW- how much it would cost to replace it?
there are 4, 2 front mounts (engine mounts), 2 rear mounts (transmission mounts), its not the price of the mounts its paying for someone to put them in thats expensive... one mount maybe about US$25 and about 1hr - 1.5hr to put in, the hourly rate will depend on which auto work shop you choose.... personally i would tell them $750 as is, and not to stress the mounts are cheap. :)
