How important are motor mounts?

Will the motor drop out if they are not repaired? I have hade mine repaired twice this winter but I see no significant change. My mechanic wants to refund money for previous repairs and go to the dealer to purchase motor mounts. Not sure what to do.

I would appreciate suggestions from someone with a serious, knowledgeable resolutionHow important are motor mounts?
I would say that if you've had to have two fixed within a six month period of time, which is what I assume you mean by this winter, then it's probably an indication of something bigger. I would have a full check out of everything done, just to make sure that something else isn't broken that could be causing them to break, such as your tranny mounts. Also, yeah, motor mounts are extremely important to your vehicle. It's very unsafe to drive without them. You need to get them fixed. If your motor isnt in the right place, where it's supposed to be, it could cause the front/rear weight ratio to be thrown off, which could cause too much torque, or, it could break something else, like the guy before me said, your tranny mounts. How important are motor mounts?
No, the engine will not fall out without motor mounts. Broken mounts will lead to serious problems only over a long period (depending on the car, driving habits, etc.) Also, if the engine is not running smoothly you will feel excessive vibrations. New mounts are much more desirable than repairing old ones, but you DO NOT need to get them from a Dealer! There is no shortage of third party (non-dealer) manufacturers of high quality parts out there! Any parts house like Auto-Zone etc., has or can get you motor mounts at a fraction of the dealer price! How important are motor mounts?
Not knowing if it's front wheel drive or rear heres the deal. If it's rear wheel drive it changes the angle of the drive line and therefore can destroy the third member in the rear end costing hundreds of dollars, if it is front wheel drive it will damage the transmission and possibly the radiator and other engine components. costing you a lot of money. If your mechanic is wanting to refund the money and get factory parts he has a concern that he is worried about and is trying to take care of you, follow the mechanic's advise it sounds like you have a very good mechanic follow his advice. Without knowing what type of car it is it's hard to say what damage it could cause, shifting linkage wiring harness, breaking a fuel line starting a fire all types of things could happen, so listen to him. and Be sure you Give him a Tip By him lunch he is Trying to do what is best for you without charge that is above and beyond the call of duty, or your a very good looking single woman. How important are motor mounts?
Motor mounts are incredibly important. They hold your engine in place, which is important going over bumps and stuff yeah, but also, if you open your hood while the car is running, you'll notice most engines has a slight shake to them. This is because an engine has pistons pumping up and down at high rates of speed, and any movement like that will move an engine, so if you dont have a motor mount installed, it will shake more, especially driving it around, and cause other parts in the engine to break. If the motor isnt held in place, the hoses, belts, etc could snap, costing you hours of anger and a butt load of money. So get it fixed asap! It's important! How important are motor mounts?
Motor mounts are very important, they keep the motor in the right location. I have had two motor mounts broken before. I think one broke and the engine torque caused the other one to go. Anyway, I floored the engine and it raised up and twisted and it blocked the accelerator linkage and the motor stayed at full throttle after I took my foot of the gas. Luckily, I threw the transmission into neutral and this took the torque off the motor and it returned to its original position and released the linkage for the carb. So yeah they are important.

I can't imagine why you have had to have them replaced twice in a year. If the mechanic is willing to refund your money and have you go to the dealer to get the mounts replaced, then that sounds very fair and I would do it.

Do get them replaced, it could be a matter of safetyHow important are motor mounts?
Depends on the vehicle, did they change all the mounts? How important are motor mounts?
they are very important, because they keep your engine from jumping around and maybe breaking something else, like a tranny mount and its hard on axles too.just buy some new ones.
