Bad motor/trans mount question...?

I have a 1996 Ford Escort LX Wagon. It is an automatic and it has 120k miles. When I am sitting still in reverse, there is a strong vibration. After doing some research I have narrowed it down to either a worn motor or trans mount.

My question - Would a worn motor mount absolutely HAVE to be fixed? It runs so smooth other than when you're sitting still in reverse...would there be any signs that I could listen for to know if it's getting worse? I am completely broke and I need to know if this is something that can be put off for a few months...

Also...Would there be any noises that I could listen for so that I know 100% that I need to change it soon? The vehicle runs perfectly smooth unless you are sitting still in reverse, so I'm guessing it isn't THAT bad yet...

Oh yeah, I did the thing where you hold the brake and switch between D and R while giving it a little bit of gas. The engine didn't really move while pressing the gas in reverse, but it moved about an inch while doing it in drive.

By the way, does anyone know how much a shop would charge to fix this if I bought the part?

Please help!!!Bad motor/trans mount question...?
If it isn't completely separated, you can still drive very cautiously. Do not take off fast.

If you start hearing a fairly loud bang when taking off, it has separated and can cause other damage.Bad motor/trans mount question...?

if the mount is going you might have some time before you get it fixed do not think you will find shop willing to put in your own parts would you bring a hamburger to burger king to have them cook it it gets to be a liability/warranty issue
